This kitchen was designed for a Bend athlete who is pursuing a career in architecture. She wanted to update the kitchen to make it more functional for cooking, laundry, and potential rental. We took out the bad laminate updates that were done in a previous remodel, and brought back 1928 charm through the use of color, pattern, and finishes. The washer and dryer were moved from the basement to the adjacent room, which now houses the laundry and plenty of additional storage.

Arched Entry

Arched Entry

An arch was added in between the kitchen and laundry room. A pop of green cabinetry peers around the corner. The refrigerator was moved to this wall next to a new dishwasher that the kitchen never had.

Appliances

Appliances

Cafe appliances add efficiency and style to the kitchen. This home never had a dishwasher, so that was an exciting addition.

Pattern and Color

Pattern and Color

The patterned floor is a creative take on checkerboard and draws your eye into the kitchen and then into the laundry room. The green cabinetry and blush backsplash are refreshing but 1928-era appropriate.

Open Shelves

Open Shelves

Open shelves in this corner keep it light and show off dishware, collectibles, and plants.

Range Wall

Range Wall

This run of cabinetry gives plenty of storage room for cookware and countertop prep room. A microwave/hood combo is the way to go in a smaller space. And since appliances are still slow to deliver…the new induction Cafe range will be installed later this year.

Storage Solutions

Storage Solutions

Roll-out drawers, dividers, and other storage solutions make it easier to keep organized.

Coffee and Tea Station

Coffee and Tea Station

We debated about putting a hutch in this corner but decided on lower cabinets and floating shelves to make a coffee, tea, and collectibles nook.

Art in the Kitchen

Art in the Kitchen

Art and collectibles in the kitchen give it personality and interest. This nook can be used for coffee, tea, and baking.

Back Stairs

Back Stairs

The geometric pattern on the floor was carried down the stairs to the back door.

Laundry

Laundry

Who wouldn’t want to do laundry in this sunny spot?
